Hot Water System

San Francisco Theological Seminary

Sun First! is proud to have designed and installed a system for the historic San Francisco Theological Seminary, located in downtown San Anselmo.

During the spring semester of 2004, six students in the Environmental Ethics class proposed a plan to build a Solar Thermal system for the Oxtoby Hall dormitory (built 1958). Because of the dormitory’s high use of hot water, the students proposed a system that would save the Seminary 12,000 pounds of CO2 emissions per month. The facilities committee was impressed with the proposal and obtained special funding to proceed.

In the face of global warming and rising energy costs, the San Francisco Theological Seminary has made a commitment to an integrated program of environmental awareness and ethical responsibility focused on capturing more solar energy and lowering its dependence on fossil fuels.

“SFTS is committed to reducing its carbon footprint and SunFirst! helped us get started.  As a seminary, we believe it is our duty to be reconcilers and partners with creation and educate our students on the importance of carbon-neutral living.”
- Carol Robb, Professor of Environmental Ethics
