Solar power has been around for over half a century, but only recently has it become a big issue that’s playing a role in politics. Solar power and other environmental issues are coming to a head in the wake of new scientific findings indicating that the environment is clearly changing. Whether or not global warming exists isn’t even the question anymore; now, we’re wondering if humans can change its course.
Part of our drive to provide solar in the Bay Area that residents and businesses can use reliably was spurred by the realization that even if global warming is a natural phenomenon that we can’t avoid, we can definitely stop making it worse. Our need for cheap and “green” energy to continue American business is becoming more and more apparent as time goes on. Even without extreme situations like the oil crisis of the 1970s, there are plenty of examples of how energy dependent every aspect of our society is.
Modern political candidates are increasingly being asked to answer these questions and provide solutions. The only problem is that they aren’t even close to qualified in this subject. The United States has never elected a research scientist, let alone an environmental expert as president, and it’s very unlikely that such an occurrence will happen anytime soon. Instead, companies like ours are tasked with the responsibility of creating and providing solutions for solar in the Bay Area that people can rely on. Although most voters will let these issues decide how they feel about the candidates, they’re ignoring the fact that the candidates themselves aren’t the best judges of how to fix the issues.
Politics has no place in energy science. Subsidies and biased litigation practices are really what got us to where we’re so energy dependent in the first place. Now, we have to catch up. Our view is that regardless of how this election turns out, the only way that we’re going to fix these issues and create a better energy outlook for future generations is by taking action ourselves.
