The Bay Area has long been a hub of progressive environmentalism in California, but Bay area solar supporters can now celebrate having two of the state’s top solar energy-producing cities. According to a recent study released by the Environment California Research & Policy Center, both San Francisco and San Jose are among the highest solar producers in the state based on the number of rooftop solar installations each city has. In addition, another Bay Area neighbor, Santa Cruz, leads the state in solar installations relative to city population, setting a positive example for a high solar penetration rate.
The state leader in terms of output remains San Diego, with 4,507 rooftop installations. San Jose’s numbers exceed 2,700, and San Francisco isn’t too far behind, meaning Bay Area solar adopters have a lot to be proud of.
